What Apple’s Planning for Vision Pro, Smart Glasses, and Beyond

When Apple had introduced the Vision Pro, the first-ever AR headset by the tech giant back in 2023, it quickly became a sensation amongst fans all around the world. Since then, fans have been eagerly waiting for the new product. Maybe a smart glass or an affordable version of the Vision Pro. The latest leak gives light to the expectations.

As per a blog post by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is expected to make big decisions in the world of wearables. From advanced XR headsets to smart glasses, the tech giant appears to be working on its next wave of consumer tech.

One of the most highlighted of all is the Apple Vision Pro with M5 which is coming in 2025. As per the report, the next-generation Apple Vision Pro is expected to be powered by Apple’s upcoming M5 chip. While the overall design and features may stay largely the same, the upgraded processor is aimed at improving performance. This version will remain a premium product, focusing on extended reality (XR) experiences. Kuo also revealed that Apple is likely to begin mass production in Q3 2025, with an estimated shipment of 150,000–200,000 units.

Apple Headsets Roadmap

Vision Air in 2027

For those looking for a more lightweight and budget-friendly option, the Vision Air is expected to be there. Apple is targeting a Q3 2027 launch for this device. Reports suggest it could weigh up to 40% less than the Vision Pro due to materials like plastic and magnesium alloy. The Vision Air is expected to be priced between $1,500 and $2,000.

Vision Pro With New-Design – 2028

A completely redesigned Vision Pro is also expected to be come with mass production projected for the second half of 2028. This model will likely be lighter, more powerful (with a Mac-class chip), and come with a more competitive price point.

Apple Smart Glasses (Ray-Ban Style) – Expected in 2027

Apple’s first real push into smart glasses is aimed at the same market as Meta’s Ray-Ban models. These will focus on audio features, camera functions, gesture control, and AI-powered environmental awareness—without a display. They’re expected to ship in large volumes (up to 5 million units) starting Q2 2027.

XR Glasses with Display – 2028

Another version of smart glasses, equipped with a color display using LCoS technology and waveguides, is planned for late 2028. These will retain voice and gesture control but add visuals for a more immersive experience. A simpler variant of this model is also reportedly in development.

Display Accessory

Apple had plans for a display accessory designed to mirror content from other Apple devices like the iPhone. Though initially set for a 2026 release, the project is currently paused due to concerns about its market competitiveness.

TRENDING NOW

It must be noted that 2026 may be a quiet year for Apple’s wearable releases, as most head-mounted products are currently scheduled for 2025, 2027, and beyond. However, many of these may come true or many may not as these gadgets are still under development and part of leaks and rumours.
