Apple might experience a busy 2026, with reports indicating a massive update of its Mac lineup. According to reports, the company is working on a number of new models that will use Apple’s next-generation M5 chip, including updated versions of the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac mini, and Mac Studio. The first of those models might be a MacBook Pro, potentially using the M5 chip, and it is expected to launch in late 2025. Also Read: iOS 26 Inspiration Or Copy? As per AppleInsider, Apple is testing a new MacBook Pro with the internal identifier J704, believed to be the first Mac powered by the base M5 chip. The report cites sources familiar with macOS “Tahoe” (version 26.0.2) testing, suggesting that the device’s development is nearly complete. The last MacBook Pro with an M4 chip carried the code name J604, which supports the assumption that this new identifier corresponds to its M5 successor. This aligns with recent signs like shrinking retail supplies of the current Pro lineup – something that usually happens when Apple prepares to introduce a new generation. An unannounced MacBook Pro model also appeared in an FCC listing, adding more fuel to the speculation. After the Pro, Apple reportedly plans to bring the M5 chip to the MacBook Air in two sizes – 13-inch and 15-inch – internally known as J813 and J815. These models are expected to ship with macOS 26.2 and could launch in early 2026, following the same pattern as this year’s M4-powered Air that arrived in March.
Apple is also working on M5 Pro and M5 Max versions for its higher-end MacBook Pros, which are codenamed J714 and J716. These should look like the familiar 14-inch and 16-inch options, potentially launching in the first quarter of 2026 – like M2 Pro and M2 Max did in January of 2023.
The M5 rollout won’t stop with laptops. There are also reports about an updated Mac mini and Mac Studio that will be delivered in mid-2026 and run macOS 26.4. These models reportedly carry internal codenames J873s, J873g, J775c, and J775d.
Interestingly, an updated iMac, identified as J833ct, has also popped up in testing logs – though details about that model remain under wraps for now.
If these reports hold true, Apple’s 2026 lineup could be one of its biggest Mac overhauls in recent years – bringing the M5 generation across its entire desktop and laptop range.
