Apple has largely managed to avoid the massive layoffs over the last two years, despite the fact that several other tech giants have announced job cuts. But now, the company appears to be making its own adjustments. According to recent reports, Apple has cut a small number of jobs in its sales organisation as part of a broader restructuring effort. Bloomberg first revealed it, and it was later confirmed by Reuters. Reports say some long-time employees-those with 20–30 years at the company-were also affected. However, Apple hasn’t shared exact numbers or locations but confirmed that affected staff can apply for new internal roles.
Internally, some employees believe Apple is shifting more of its sales operations to external resellers-partners that already handle a large chunk of enterprise and education purchases. This could help the company reduce overlapping roles and lower operational costs.
Apple’s sales team reports directly to CEO Tim Cook and is overseen by VP Mike Fenger. The restructuring follows earlier changes this year, where deputy executive Vivek Thakkar took over enterprise and education sales. Despite the cuts, Apple says it is still hiring in other areas.
Employees who lost their roles have until January 20 to find another job within Apple, the report added. Those who cannot will receive a severance package. Apple has also posted new openings on its job portal. Interestingly, the layoffs come at a time when Apple is gearing up to launch a new entry-level laptop next year to strengthen its education and business lineup.
However, Apple is not alone. Companies like Amazon, Meta, IBM and Verizon have all announced new rounds of layoffs in recent weeks.
