Apple and Google are tech giants that are known to bring futuristic technology to its users. Once again, both companies are making headlines with a potential collaboration. This partnership is said to impact the tech landscape. As per the recent report, Apple and Google are joining hands to bring one of the exciting and innovative developments for both Android as well as iPhone users.
Google and Apple in collaboration with each other, are reportedly bringing end-to-end encrypted (E2EE) RCS messages technology that will change the landscape of how we interact with each other. As per GSM Association, “RCS will be the first large-scale messaging service to support interoperable E2EE between client implementations from different providers. Together with other unique security features such as SIM-based authentication, E2EE will provide RCS users with the highest level of privacy and security for stronger protection from scams, fraud and other security and privacy threats. ”
The association further reveals that it has already enabled the E2EE on messages sent between Android and iPhone in September last year.
E2EE stands for End-to-End Encryption that helps in private data transmission. In simple words, it is a method of data transmission which allows only sender and receiver to read the messages and hence nobody else will be able to read or decrypt the message that has been sent. In this method the message delivers in an encrypted form that can only be decrypted by the recipient’s device. It is ahigh level privacy and security that is commonly used in instant messaging apps like WhatsApp, Signal, and iMessage.
Apple spokesperson Shane Bauer says, “End-to-end encryption is a powerful privacy and security technology that iMessage has supported since the beginning, and now we are pleased to have helped lead a cross industry effort to bring end-to-end encryption to the RCS Universal Profile published by the GSMA.”
Right now the RCS functionality is available in 8 countries including the US, Canada, Germany, Spain, France, UK, Belgium and China.
