Upcoming Xiaomi 14 Pro may offer 5X telescopic zoom

Xiaomi is reportedly working on its next flagship phone, and as a successor to the Xiaomi 13 series, it is likely to be known as Xiaomi 14. The top-end variant in the Xiaomi 14 series will likely be the Xiaomi 14 Pro, and a new report has suggested it will offer the best camera capabilities by far. The Xiaomi 14 Pro will offer improved optical zoom, as well as telescopic zoom capabilities.

According to Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, the Xiaomi 14 Pro will feature a periscope camera, which we have not seen on earlier models. Because of a periscope camera, the phone will be able to offer better optical zoom capabilities. The leak suggested the phone would offer up to 5x optical zoom and a focal length of 115m. That would mean better details in zoomed-in shots. The periscope camera is also likely to offer better hybrid and digital zoom, but it is unclear if these capabilities will match those of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.

The leak does not talk about anything else about the upcoming Xiaomi 14 Pro, including the details of the other cameras. But we have heard previously that the Xiaomi 14 Pro would use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. Qualcomm has scheduled its Snapdragon Summit in October to possibly launch the next flagship processor. Xiaomi has remained one of the first smartphone brands to launch flagship phones right after the debut of the latest Snapdragon 8 series chips. That means we may see the release of Xiaomi 14 Pro and other phones in the series right after the Snapdragon Summit or sometime later.

Earlier reports have also suggested that the Xiaomi 14 Pro would use a 5000mAh battery with support for up to 120W fast wired and 50W wireless charging technology. One leak also said there will be two models of Xiaomi 14 Pro: one with a curved display and another with flat edges. It is possible both variants come at different prices, but whether other specifications will also see some differences is unclear at the moment.
