Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 have been launched.

Story Highlights

  • Samsung has launched Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6.
  • Both phones are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.
  • The Samsung Galaxy Z series has better Galaxy AI features.

At the second Galaxy Unpacked Samsung introduced its new foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, at the second Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris. The new Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 bring minor upgrades over last year’s counterparts, and they boast the company’s generative artificial intelligence-based Galaxy AI out of the box. Samsung also claims the new phones are the slimmest Galaxy Z series devices, making the foldable form factor more convenient for premium users. Galaxy AI enables tools such as FlexCam for automatic framing, Note Assist, Interpreter with FlexWindow support, Live Translate, Photo Assist, and Circle to Search. The duo runs Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, ditching Samsung’s Exynos chips for the new foldable. Here are the details of Samsung’s new Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6

The new Galaxy Z Fold 6 is an incremental upgrade over the Galaxy Z Fold 5. While the design remains more or less the same, Samsung claims the new full-fledged foldable has better durability, less weight, and native capability to run Galaxy AI. The Fold 6 is now IP48 rated, and while it is better than the previous IPX8 rating, the rating means the new Galaxy foldable is protected against foreign particles of at least 1mm. It is not equivalent to dust resistance, meaning you will still need to be extra careful when using the phone on a dusty day. The inner glass has better durability, while the outer display is a bit larger. It has a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display with up to 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, while the sub-display measures 6.3 inches now and uses the same Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with HD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.

It uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset for flagship performance — the same level as the Galaxy S24 series — and has support for seven years of OS and security upgrades. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 supports the S Pen, but ships without it. Its cameras are pretty much the same as last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 5. You get a 50MP main camera, a 10MP telephoto camera, and a 12MP ultrawide camera on the back. Samsung claims the ultrawide can now click better photos in low-light conditions. All sensors support optical image stabilisation, while the telephoto sensor has an optical zoom of up to 3x and a digital zoom of up to 30x. The under-display selfie camera uses a 4MP sensor without autofocus or OIS support, while the cover camera is a 10MP in-display snapper with support for up to 8K video recording. It has up to 12GB of RAM and 1TB of internal memory without support for a microSD card. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 has a 4400mAh battery with fast charging support.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 starts at ₹1,64,999. It comes in Silver Shadow, Pink, and Navy and will be available for pre-orders starting July 10. The regular sale will begin on July 24. HDFC Bank customers receive an instant cashback of ₹8,000 while existing Samsung phone owners can get up to ₹8,000 as a bonus on exchange.

The new flip phone — Galaxy Z Flip 6 — does not stray away much from its predecessor. It has the same 3.4-inch HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X cover display, which now supports smart reply suggestions while texting someone back from the outer screen. The main display measures 6.7 inches and uses the Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with Full-HD+ resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate. Boasting the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 has 50MP and 12MP dual cameras on the back and a 10MP camera for selfies. There is an optical zoom of up to 2x and 4K video recording. It has 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 has a 4000mAh battery with support for fast wired and wireless charging.
