Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S26 series is already making buzz online, and new leaks suggest major upgrades, particularly in the camera department. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is said to come with a new 200MP Sony primary rear camera, replacing the existing ISOCELL HP2 sensor, based on a recent leak. Meanwhile, the mid-range model – likely the Galaxy S26 Edge – could bring a significant camera improvement over its predecessor.
As per German publication WinFuture, Samsung is working on three S26 models under the internal codenames NPA1, NPA2, and NPA3. These stand for “Next Paradigm,” following the Galaxy S25 series’ internal codename “Paradigm.”
NPA3 is believed to be the Galaxy S26 Ultra, and leaks suggest it will use a new Sony 200MP sensor – a step up from the ISOCELL HP2 found in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The phone is also expected to retain a 50MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom, and an ultra-wide camera – although the ultra-wide sensor’s resolution remains unknown. The S25 Ultra had a 50MP ultra-wide sensor.
The mid-tier model, referred to as NPA2, is likely to be the Galaxy S26 Edge – possibly replacing the “Plus” variant in Samsung’s next flagship series. This model could come equipped with a 50MP ultra-wide camera, a notable jump from the 12MP sensor seen on both the Galaxy S25 Plus and Edge models.
This would mark a rare and significant hardware difference between Samsung’s mid-tier and base S-series phones, which have typically shared similar camera specs. While the Edge model is not expected to have a bigger battery, it’s supposed to have a more lightweight and thinner build, which is going to be an interesting choice for those who need high-end cameras but don’t want the bulk of the Ultra.
If priced and positioned correctly, the Galaxy S26 Edge can be a surprise favourite in the 2026 lineup.
