Apple foldable iPhone
Apple’s long-rumoured foldable iPhone is once again in the spotlight, with new reports offering the most detailed look yet at what the company is preparing for 2026. While Android brands have been shipping foldable phones for years, Apple is said to be taking a slower, more cautious approach. The goal reportedly is to launch a polished product that feels like a mature entry rather than an experimental first-gen device. Most leaks now point to a debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup in September 2026. Also Read: Apple Layoff: iPhone Maker Cuts Jobs Across Sales Team, Says Report
A new JP Morgan research note claims Apple is testing a 24MP under-display camera for the inner screen. If this is accurate, it would be a major jump over current Android foldables, which typically use 4MP or 8MP under-screen cameras. The higher resolution also suggests Apple may have found a way to improve light transmission and clarity, two areas where hidden cameras have traditionally struggled. The phone is expected to feature a 7.8-inch foldable display when opened, and a 5.5-inch cover screen for regular use. Some early reports also hint that Apple could bring back Touch ID for this model instead of relying solely on Face ID. Multiple reports say Apple is testing high-density batteries for the foldable. Estimates place the capacity between 5,400mAh and 5,800mAh, while Chinese leaker Instant Digital says the final number will be above 5,000mAh in any case. If Apple moves ahead with this plan, it would be the largest battery ever used in an iPhone, larger even than what is expected in the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The rear camera setup is rumoured to include dual 48MP sensors, along with a punch-hole selfie camera on the outer screen and the high-resolution under-display camera inside.
According to reports cited by MacRumors, the iPhone Fold could be priced between $2,000 and $2,500 (around Rs 1,78,000 – Rs 2,23,000) in the US. This would make it Apple’s most expensive iPhone yet and position it in the ultra-premium foldable category.
With most major specifications now leaking well ahead of time, expectations around Apple’s first foldable continue to build. The launch is reportedly planned for September 2026, though Apple has not confirmed any details so far.
