Apple has announced the dates for WWDC 2024.

Story Highlights

  • The Apple WWDC 2024 will kick off on June 10.
  • Apple may focus on generative AI this time.
  • iOS 18 and other software versions may debut.

Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference, popularly known as WWDC, will return this year in June. WWDC marks the beginning of Apple’s series of mega events and is aimed at showcasing the company’s new technologies, such as new software upgrades for its devices and sometimes new hardware. This time, however, Apple may be focusing on the iPhone software to finally jump on the artificial intelligence bandwagon. There have been multiple reports suggesting the upcoming iOS 18 will introduce generative AI tools to make the iPhone experience better and be on par with the competition, at the same time. The WWDC 2024 starts June 10 and will run through June 14.

What to expect from Apple WWDC 2024?

Much like every year, Apple’s WWDC in 2024 will be one of the biggest congregations of developers who will see new software innovations for Apple products. Apple will be playing catch-up with its rivals, Google and Samsung, to finally talk about AI, which is likely coming to the iPhone and iPad software later this year. Apple has been spending millions to train its AI models, but a recent report suggested that it is also discussing potential partnerships with other companies to use their AI resources. Google, OpenAI, and Baidu are among the companies Apple may be talking to for their cloud-based AI models that will power certain features in iOS 18.

A lot of AI this time?

Another report by Bloomberg suggested Apple may finally open its ecosystem to AI developers who can figure out new ways to integrate AI into different aspects of the iPhone software. For several years, Apple has been working on its AI capabilities, but since generative AI became more popular than expected, the company may be planning to go all in with this year’s WWDC. It means talking about features at length and how they will be better than what Samsung and Google phones can offer. The best example of why Apple will be so bullish is the latest release of the MacBook Air M3. In the press release, Apple mentioned that the new Air M3 is “the world’s best consumer laptop for AI,” even though none of its native applications have AI in them currently.
