Android 15 will be the latest version of Google’s mobile ecosystem, but it is unavailable for everyone. That is because Google is still testing Android 15. Its first build was released back in February, but it was aimed at only developers. Its first public beta came in April for Pixel users. As Google prepares to launch Android 15 beta 2, several smartphone brands have announced their Android 15 beta programmes, giving their users access to custom ROMs based on the first Android beta.
OnePlus, Nothing, Realme, Vivo, and iQOO have announced their Android 15 beta programmes. Interested users of select phones can install the beta builds and access new features. Since beta builds are full of bugs, Google advises against their installing on daily drivers. The company also expects users to provide feedback based on their experience to improve Android 15 before its stable release.
If you have the following smartphones, you are eligible for the Android 15 beta programmes:
— OnePlus 12
— OnePlus Open
— Realme 12 Pro+
— Nothing Phone (2a)
— Vivo X100
— iQOO 12
Users will have to install Android 15 on these phones manually, keeping in mind the risk of potentially bricking the device. The beta builds are also full of bugs, which might degrade the smartphone experience. For instance, OnePlus has listed known issues, such as unstable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, in the first Android 15 beta on its forum.
The Google I/O 2024 keynote was all about AI, but the company is set to Android 15-related announcements on the second day of the developers’ conference. That means the full feature set is still unclear. The developer preview builds have not given away much either. According to developers, the Android 15 developer builds have minor UI tweaks, but nothing major.
