Apple introduced an exciting accessibility feature, Personal Voice, allowing users to clone their voice directly on their iPhones earlier in iOS 17. This feature was designed to help people who may lose their ability to speak, enabling them to create a digital replica of their voice for future communication. iOS 18 also supports this feature.

Here’s a simple step-by-step guide on how to use this feature on your iPhone:

Step 1: Update to iOS 18

Ensure your iPhone is running iOS 18. To update:

Go to Settings > General > Software Update.

If an update is available, tap Download and Install.

Step 2: Open the Accessibility Settings

Once your iPhone is updated:

Open Settings.

Scroll down and tap on Accessibility.

Under the “Speech” section, tap on Personal Voice.

Step 3: Set Up Your Personal Voice

Tap Create a Personal Voice.

Follow the on-screen prompts, which will guide you through the voice creation process.

You’ll be asked to record various phrases, which will allow the iPhone to build a personalized voice model. Apple recommends recording in a quiet environment to ensure clear audio quality.

Step 4: Record Your Voice

The process involves reading aloud around 150 phrases, and this may take 15-20 minutes. Apple uses these recordings to create your custom voice. You can take breaks and resume recording at any time.

Step 5: Let the iPhone Process Your Voice

Once you’ve completed the recordings, the iPhone will process the data to generate your Personal Voice. This may take some time, but the app will notify you once your voice is ready.

Step 6: Use Your Cloned Voice

Once your Personal Voice is created, you can use it in various apps, especially those that support Live Speech, allowing you to type and have your custom voice speak the text. This feature is especially useful for those facing speech impairments.
