The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced a new way of updating addresses on the Aadhaar cards. Up till now, Aadhaar cardholders had to upload proof of their new address to get the address updated or changed. The new method allows people to do so without uploading any documents. It can now be done with the consent of the Head of Family (HoF).
As per the official statement, this method will be of great help for “relative(s) of resident-like children, spouse, parents, etc., who don’t have supporting documents in their own name to update the address in their Aadhaar”.
“With people moving cities and towns due to various reasons within the country, such a facility will be beneficial for millions of people. This choice would be in addition to the existing address update facility using any valid Proof of Address document prescribed by UIDAI. Any resident above the age of 18 can be an HOF for this purpose and can share his/her address with his/her relatives through this process,” said the Ministry of Electronics and IT in an official statement.
To update the addresss, you just need to submit proof of the relationship between you and the applicant and the head of the family. After this, HOF needs to share the OTP for authentication. This document can be in the form of a ration card, marriage certificate, passport, etc, mentioning the names of both the applicant and the HOF.
In case the HOF does not have the document, they can apply for self-declaration via the UIDAI-prescribed format.
The request will be updated on the My Aadhar portal within 30 days from the date of receiving the notification.
