Sony India has announced the launch of the PlayStation Portal in the country. The portable player comes almost a year after its official launch in November 2023 in the global markets. The handheld device allows users to play their favourite PS5 and PS4 titles while lying on the bed or anywhere else as long as their PlayStation 5 is turned on and PS Portal is connected to the Internet with PSN. The Sony PlayStation Portal costs Rs 18,990 and will be available from August 3 across Sony Centres, Amazon, Flipkart, Croma, Reliance Digital, Vijay Sales, Blinkit and other retail stores in India. Also Read: Sony PlayStation Portal handheld console launches on November 15
The PlayStation Portal has a somewhat portal design featuring an 8-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 1080p. It supports 60fps gaming. There are two grip areas one on the left and one on the right with several buttons and two joysticks on each side. The device supports quick connection with your PlayStation 5 console and is also compatible with older PlayStation 4 games. The PS Portal connects with your PlayStation 5 using Wi-Fi. And you need to have a PSN network to play titles on the handheld device. This allows you to play your favourite games while lying on the bed or while being in some other room. That said, you do not have to stay in front of your TV all the time if you own a PS Portal. However, PS5 needs to be kept on to play games on PS Portal.
While the handheld gaming device has arrived in India, it faces stiff competition from rivals. It’s a bit late to reach India, but it’s here where rivals have already launched their handheld consoles such as the Steam Deck OLED, Asus ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion Go, and MSI Claw.
Despite that, PS Portal may sell well initially as it’s exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
