Microsoft has announced the release date for its much-awaited handheld gaming devices, the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. During the Gamescom 2025, the company revealed that the two consoles, developed in collaboration with Asus, will launch globally on October 16, 2025. While availability details are clear, Microsoft has yet to announce pricing, citing “macro-economic factors” as the reason for the delay. Both models will roll out in several major markets including the US, UK, Canada, Japan, Germany, Australia, France, South Korea, and more. The Xbox Ally X will also launch in China from day one, while the standard model will only arrive there in early 2026. Although Microsoft has stayed silent on official pricing, leaks suggest the ROG Xbox Ally could cost EUR 599 (around Rs 60,900), while the higher-end Ally X may retail at EUR 899 (around Rs 91,400) in Europe. Company executives stated that setting the right price point requires balancing affordability, performance, and factors like battery life, adding that final details will be shared closer to launch. To improve the gaming experience, Microsoft announced a Handheld Compatibility Program, similar to Steam Deck’s “Deck Verified.” Games will carry one of two labels:
A Windows Performance Fit badge will also indicate whether games “should play great” or “should play well” on the devices.
The flagship ROG Xbox Ally X, which uses AMD’s Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip, will add AI-powered features in 2026, including Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR), which will provide clarity and framerates, and AI-highlight reels that will create automatic highlight reels of key in-game moments.
Microsoft also revealed a number of accessories, including the ROG Raikiri II Xbox Wireless Controller, alongside better docking solutions for big-screen gaming.
