Earlier today, Xiaomi launched the all-new Xiaomi 14 CIVI in the Indian smartphone market. The device comes within the upper mid-range segment and has an impressive specs sheet. Some of its highlights include a quad-curve 120Hz display, triple-rear cameras, and a Snapdragon chipset. The Xiaomi 14 CIVI comes at a price range between Rs 40,000 and Rs 50,000, making it a direct competition to the OnePlus 12R. If you are someone who’s in a dilemma, thinking about which one to buy of these two, you are at the right place. In this article, we will compare the specs of the phone and let you decide which one is overall a better choice. Also Read: 5 Best Smartphones With 4K Video Recording Under Rs 40,000 In India
Xiaomi 14 CIVI comes with a slightly different design than most Xiaomi phones and that’s because, it’s from the CIVI series, which was once China exclusive. The device sports a slim design and a quad-curved display. It has a metal chassis and a circular camera island on the back. The OnePlus 12R also has a metal build and a circular camera on the back, however, the overall design is similar to the OnePlus 12. That said, anyone would be able to tell from afar that this is a new OnePlus device. On the other hand, not many will be able to know whether the 14 CIVI is a Xiaomi device or a phone from some other brand. Also Read: 7 Best Amazon Prime Day Early Deals That You Must Check
The CIVI features a smaller 6.55-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 1.5K resolution. It has Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. The OnePlus 12R has a larger display. It sports a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED screen with a 120hz refresh rate, a 1.5K resolution, and the same Gorilla Glass Victus 2 as the CIVI. So if you want a large-screen phone, the OnePlus 12R can be your choice. However, it is worth noting that the 12R brings in a lot of weight coming at 207 grams. The CIVI weighs under 180 grams.
Camera-wise, the Xiaomi 14 CIVI has a clear lead as it’s a dedicated camera device with a Leica-branded camera system. It boasts a triple rear camera setup with a 500MP main lens with OIS, a 50MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultrawide lens. There are several camera-centric modes on the phone. The OnePlus 12R on the other hand features a triple rear camera system with a 50MP main lens, an 8MP ultrawide lens, and a 2MP macro sensor. As you can see, it lacks a telephoto lens.
One the front as well, the CIVI is better thanks to its 32MP dual-front camera system, which supports 4K video recording. The 12R has a 16MP selfie camera with support for only 1080p video recording. Overall, Xiaomi 14 CIVI is better in terms of cameras as per the on-paper specs.
The Xiaomi 14 CIVI is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, which is the latest chipset by Qualcomm based on the 4nm node. The 12R, on the other hand, is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which is also based on a 4nm process. Both chipsets are from different generations, however, they perform similarly. This means that both can let you do intense tasks and also play games in medium to high settings. One thing to note here is that the CIVI has an 8/16GB LPDDR5 RAM + 256GB/512GB UFS 4.0 storage support, as opposed to the 8/12GB LPDDR5 RAM + 128GB/256/512GB of 3.1 combo in the OnePlus 12R. So expect faster data transfer speeds/app-opening, although the difference may not be very noticeable.
In terms of the battery, the OnePlus 12R is a winner with its 5,500mAh cell supporting 100W fast charging. The CIVI has a smaller 4,700mAh cell with 67W fast charging. Both run on Android 14 OS and have their own custom skins.
Overall, the Xiaomi 14 CIVI is a better device for those who want a camera-centric phone with good performance. The OnePlus 12R is for those who are fine with performance, do not really care about the camera, and want a OnePlus phone for whatever reason.
