With time, traditional matchmaking has transformed with the World Wide Web and now, AI. An Indian-origin entrepreneur is planning to further change the way singles meet online. Nandini Mullaji, who grew up in Mumbai watching her grandmother set up relatives and friends, has launched Sitch, an AI-powered matchmaking app designed to feel more personal than typical dating platforms.
As per a report by CNBC, Mullaji’s journey took her from boarding school in the U.S. to Georgetown and later Stanford. Along the way, she noticed a recurring theme among her friends – frustration with dating apps. Endless swiping, surface-level chats, and dates that led nowhere were common complaints.
In December 2024, she joined hands with Chad DePue, a tech veteran from Snapchat and Microsoft, to create Sitch. The aim? An app that works like a human matchmaker rather than a gamified dating platform.
Instead of showing a feed of profiles, Sitch’s AI “matchmaker,” trained on Mullaji’s own matchmaking style and even her voice, asks users about their interests, values, relationship history, and goals. When it finds at least five promising matches, it introduces them in a group chat, just like a friend making an introduction. Then, users take it from there.
Sitch charges for curated introductions, packs of three, five, or eight, priced between $90 and $160. Mullaji says this helps attract people serious about meeting offline. The AI’s role also encourages honesty. “People aren’t afraid to hurt its feelings,” she explains, which helps the system find more compatible matches.
The app is currently live in New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, with Chicago and Austin coming by the end of 2025. Early users have already gone on thousands of dates, and many say it feels more curated and less overwhelming than other apps.
For Mullaji, Sitch is not just about dating, it’s about helping people know themselves and what they want in a partner. She hopes that by 2030, the app will be available globally, offering a modern twist on traditional matchmaking.
