YouTube Music is experimenting with a new feature to enhance the music listening experience, making it more interactive and informative. The Google-owned platform is working on a new feature called AI-generated hosts that will share trivia, fun facts, and commentary while listening to your favorite songs.

This upcoming feature is a part of Google’s AI push into its Music. The AI-powered hosts will work like a Radio Jockey, providing interesting stories about the songs, artists, and albums.

What Are AI Hosts on YouTube Music?

To recall, Google recently revealed that it is experimenting with its YouTube Labs Program, which is an initiative similar to Google Labs. Under this, the new AI-powered features are tested with a small group of users before being released to a wider audience.

As per Aparna Pappu, Vice President of YouTube Labs, the upcoming AI-powered hosts will be unveiled as a means to deepen engagement with users by offering relevant stories, commentary, and fun facts.

The Hosts feature will work only on selected mixes and stations. However, the feature will provide a curated listening experience without hindering or overwhelming the user. While AI commentary adds entertainment, Google has noted that, like any AI-generated content, there may be occasional inaccuracies or “hallucinations” in the information shared.

YouTube Music AI Hosts Limited Rollout

AI Hosts in YouTube Music is currently available to a limited users in the US for some participants. Those who are interested in testing the feature can sign up via the YouTube Labs page. As soon as the testing phase is activated, listeners can snooze the AI commentary for an hour for the rest of the day.

This measured rollout indicates that Google will first gather feedback on the effectiveness and accuracy of the feature before the global launch.

YouTube has recently been adding several AI-powered tools to its platform, but not all have received a positive response. For example, the automatic dubbing feature received criticism from users.
