Spotify has announced a price hike for Premium plans in India, alongside South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. The increased rates apply to each of its four Premium subscription plans – Individual, Duo, Family, and Student. While existing users will see the change once their billing cycle ends, new subscribers must pay the revised prices right away. In an official newsroom post, Spotify stated that the price hike is necessary to “continue to innovate” and enhance user experience. Features such as ad-free music, customisable queues, on-demand song selection, and improved streaming quality remain part of the Premium package. The company said users will be informed via email about the change in pricing. Although Spotify did not list every country affected, it confirmed that the increase applies to markets across South Asia, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region. According to the revised rates on the Spotify India app:
While the price has increased, the Student plan remains the cheapest way to enjoy Spotify Premium – offering the same services at a reduced price.
The increased pricing will reflect for current subscribers after their existing billing cycle ends. New users will be required to pay the new rates from the time they sign up. Spotify hasn’t indicated if any new features will accompany the price increase, but says it remains focused on improving the listening experience.
