WhatsApp is working on a new feature called Guest Chats that could make messaging simpler, especially when your friends or family don’t have a WhatsApp account. According to details spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android by WabetaInfo, this feature will let you send text messages to people who aren’t on WhatsApp at all.  news Also Read: WhatsApp Is Testing New AI Writing Assistant Tool For iPhone Users: How Will It Work?

The report has suggested that this step seems to be part of Meta’s bigger goal of making its platforms more interoperable, a requirement under new EU regulations. How do guest chats work? The report explained that as a WhatsApp user, you’ll send an invitation link to the person you want to talk to. You can share this link via SMS, email, or any other messaging platform. news Also Read: WhatsApp Now Lets You Create AI-Generated Chat Wallpapers: Here’s How To Do It

Once the recipient taps the link, they’ll be taken to an online chat window that looks similar to WhatsApp Web. They won’t need to install the app or sign up for an account. From there, you can exchange text messages in real time. news Also Read: WhatsApp New Feature: Now You Can Scan Documents With the Camera

However, Guest Chats do have a few limitations. You won’t be able to send – Photos, videos, GIFs, and voice or video messages. This feature is designed for basic text-only conversations.

Will Guest Chats Be Secure?

While we know that WhatsApp conversations are end-to-end encrypted to have safe conversations, Guest Chats raise one of the most important questions: privacy. To that, the report further confirmed that WhatsApp plans to protect Guest Chats with end-to-end encryption, just like regular chats. This means only you and the guest can read the messages, and not even WhatsApp will have access. To do this, WhatsApp will create a secure connection that lets the guest’s phone virtually connect to WhatsApp’s web resources.

WhatsApp Guest Chats: When Is It Coming?

There’s no confirmed launch date yet. The feature was spotted in early beta testing, so it might take a few months before it’s available to everyone. Still, it’s an interesting step toward making WhatsApp more flexible and easier to use—especially when the people you need to reach aren’t on the app.
