Instagram Brings Reels Translation, Indian Fonts - India Creators Get a Boost
The social-platform giant, Instagram, has rolled out two big updates which are specifically focused on its Indian users and creators. First, AI-powered translations for Reels now support five additional Indian languages. Second, new Indian-language fonts are being added to Instagram’s editing tools, making it easier to write captions or on-screen text in regional scripts. Previously, Instagram offered Meta AI translations for a handful of languages. Now, thanks to the update, creators can translate their Reels into Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Marathi. What’s neat, the translation keeps the original voice quality intact, and if creators opt in, there’s even a lip-sync option that adjusts mouth movements to match the translated audio. That means it can look like you recorded the video in that language. Also Read: You Can Now Edit Instagram Stories With Meta AI: Here’s How It Works
On top of translations, Instagram is also adding Indian-language fonts to its editing toolkit. Users on Android will soon have access to fonts in Devanagari and Bengali/Assamese scripts. Creators can use these for captions, on-screen text, or overlays – in languages like Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Assamese, and more.
If your phone’s language is already set to one of those scripts, the corresponding fonts will be shown by default. Otherwise, you’ll be able to filter and choose them manually. It’s a small but neat feature – especially for creators who want their content to feel more native, more local.
With these updates, Instagram is clearly focusing on India’s multilingual, multimedia creator community. AI translations + lip-sync mean videos can cross language boundaries more naturally. Local fonts mean captions and text overlays feel native and more authentic. For creators – it’s a tool to expand reach, without having to re-record or edit heavily. For viewers, it means more content in their language, with a feel that resonates.
