Instagram, Facebook to Show Ads and Posts Based on Your Meta AI Conversations from December
Meta is making a big update to the way you’ll experience Facebook and Instagram. From December 16, 2025, Facebook and Instagram will start using your interactions with Meta AI – the company’s chatbot and AI tools – to decide what content and ads you see. Notifications and emails about this change will start rolling out from October 7, giving users a heads-up before it goes live. Also Read: Instagram Wants You To Jump Right Into Reels Section? “More than 1 billion people use Meta AI every month. We’re continuing to improve the way our AI products feel relevant to you, understand your goals, and help you accomplish tasks more efficiently,” Meta said in a blog post. For years, Meta has used your likes, follows, and other activity to shape what shows up in your feed. Now, conversations with Meta AI, whether it is in text form or voice, it will also be added as signals. For example, if you ask Meta AI about hiking, the platforms may start suggesting hiking groups, reels about trails, or even ads for outdoor gear. In short, your chats with the AI could influence the posts and ads you come across. Also Read: Meta Quest VR Now Lets You Scan Your Room And Turn It Into A Virtual World
Meta says users remain in control. Tools like Ads Preferences and feed controls can still be used to fine-tune what you want to see less or more of. The tech giant has mentioned that sensitive topics, such as health, politics, religion, or sexual orientation, will not be used to show ads, even if discussed with Meta AI.
Additionally, data from Meta AI will only be used across the accounts you’ve linked in the Accounts Centre. So if your WhatsApp account isn’t connected, its AI interactions won’t influence recommendations on Instagram or Facebook. Facebook and Instagram’s parent company says that more than a billion people already use Meta AI each month, and this update could make ads and feeds feel more relevant for many users.
