Samsung is working on the next model in its premium smartwatch lineup, the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, as per a report from GalaxyClub.nl. The new smartwatch will take over from the first-generation model launched in July 2024. Early reports indicate that Samsung is aiming for a more noticeable hardware upgrade this time, rather than the minor refresh it offered with the current version. Also Read: Always-On Phone Tracking? The report also mentions that Samsung is building the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 alongside the upcoming Galaxy Watch 9. This usually means both watches will share similar internal hardware, just like the first Watch Ultra was closely tied to the Galaxy Watch 7 platform. Internally, the new model is being referred to as “Watch 9 Ultra,” though Samsung is still expected to market it as the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. Samsung’s development cycle for its wearables generally follows a predictable schedule, with major smartwatch announcements landing around the middle of the year. If Samsung sticks to its usual release pattern, both the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 are likely to be announced around July 2026. The timing would line up with the expected launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8.
Samsung introduced a Galaxy Watch Ultra variant this year as well, but it featured only a slight design refresh. Because of that, expectations for the next model are higher, especially since the Ultra line has historically focused on durability, long-lasting battery life, and outdoor-friendly features. A larger battery, improved sensors, and better performance are among the upgrades users are hoping to see.
There are no confirmed hardware details yet, and Samsung is still in the early stages of development. More information should surface in the coming months as testing continues and leaks begin to reveal what the company is planning for its next high-end smartwatch.
