Bharti Airtel has come up with a new Rs 189 prepaid recharge plan silently, as it targets people with lower spending capacities seeking basic connectivity features without having to pay more to avail higher-cost data-rich packages. This plan is now offered on the Airtel mobile app and the Airtel web and will directly serve light users who focus more on voice calls than internet consumption.
This step by Airtel is to go in line with its overall approach of enhancing ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) and even maintaining its numbers in the low-spending market segment. Launching an affordable plan at a lower rate yet having unlimited voice calls, Airtel is making sure that it does not lose customers that prioritize value to their competitor Reliance Jio or Vodafone Idea.
Interestingly, Airtel currently offers two major prepaid packs less than 200, the new Rs 189 pack and the old Rs 199 pack. The Rs 199 plan also has almost similar features but it has a slightly better 28-day validity period and hence it is slightly cheaper compared to this one but only by Rs 10.
The Rs 189 package has 21-days service validity compared to most normal monthly packages. It has all basic services that one would need: calls, data, and SMS, but the 1GB of allocated data can be too minimalist even to the moderate user. Nevertheless, Airtel does offer users to buy more top-up data packs whenever needed, which provides a certain degree of flexibility.
It can be customized easily, as users who need more than 1GB can combine this pack with the data booster options offered by Airtel, at various tariffs and data sizes. This increases the applicability of the Rs 189 pack in case you sometimes require more internet services than usual.
