– Let’s start with the design. The Boat Wave Sigma 3 features a large squarish display with curved edges. While the chassis is made of plastic, the watch strap is metallic and it comes with a magnetic lock, which makes it easier to lock or adjust the watch on the wrist. This metallic strap makes the overall watch a tad bit heavier than the ones with a silicone strap, but it also makes it incredibly comfortable to wear for longer durations. That said, the overall design isn’t anything out of the ordinary, but it gets the job done whether there is sun or storm.
– Next comes the display. The Boat Wave Sigma 3 has a display that is significantly larger than the smartwatches offered by the competition. But that is not necessarily a bad thing. Its larger display makes accessing various features a lot easier. It also makes it easier to read text notifications and other messages, which can come in handy if it is being used by elderly people.
– Next comes app and connectivity. The Boat Wave Sigma 3 connects to your smartphone via the Boat Crest app, which is different from the one Boat offers for connecting its hearables. So, if you also have a pair of Boat earbuds, you need to download and use two separate apps, which I feel is unnecessary. Besides that, the watch and the app face connectivity issues, which makes it difficult to connect the two. Once you do manage to connect them, you get access to a dashboard from where you can keep a track of its battery, customise watch faces, update software and even get access to all your health data – all of which works just fine.
– Next comes the features. As mentioned before, the Boat Wave Sigma 3 comes with a host of utilitarian features. You can answer calls, play or pause music and even control your phone’s camera using this smartwatch. You can also use it as your alarm clock or as a flashlight, though it’s not bright enough to offer any practical usage and there is no way to control its brightness. Additionally, this watch offers turn-by-turn navigation. In case you are wondering, no it does not have built-in GPS. Instead, it uses MapMyIndia API within the Boat Crest app to show directions that are displayed to the user via Bluetooth connectivity.
As far as the health tracking features are concerned, Boat Wave Sigma 3 has a step counter and sedentary reminder, which mostly work fine. It also has a heart-rate tracking feature, which has its hits and misses. In simple words, you cannot entirely rely on it for accurate readings. Same goes for its blood-oxygen tracking system.
– Lastly, the battery. Boat claims that the Boat Wave Sigma 3 offers a seven-day battery life. In my experience, it easily lasts for around six days, and it takes a little over one hour to charge completely.
To answer your question if you should buy the Boat Wave Sigma 3 or not – it’s definitely an option worth considering. This smartwatch checks all the boxes. It has all the essential features that you can get in a budget smartwatch, be it health features or utilitarian ones. Though there is ample room for improvements, it’s rugged and packed with features, which makes it ideal for budget buyers or those looking for a more robust device.
