WhatsApp update: Meta’s messaging platform, WhatsApp, has announced a new group security feature for its users. This new feature will give users more information and better context when they are added to a new group. This in turn will help them decide if they want to be a part of the group or not.

The company, via a blog post, today announced that with its latest update, users will see a context card giving, which will give them more information about the group. The information that users will get via the card includes who added them to the group, when was the group was created, and who created it. From there, users will be able to decide whether to stay or leave the group. Furthermore, the company said that this feature is particularly helpful if a user just met someone or a group of people and haven’t yet saved them in their contacts. It will also help them confirm whether or not it’s a group that they know or want to be in.

It is worth noting that this new group security feature builds on top safety features such as Silencing Unknown callers, Chat Lock, and In-App Privacy Check-Up, which the company offers to its users.

Availability

As far as availability is concerned, WhatsApp says that it has already started rolling out this feature to all its users across the globe and that users should get access to it within a couple of days.

WhatsApp group hacks: How to prevent everyone from adding you to a group

It is worth noting that today’s feature is not the only group safety feature that the company offers to its users. Back in 2019, the company introduced another security feature for its Android phone and iPhone users that lets them decide who can add them to a new group. Users can pick from Everyone, My Contacts, and My Contacts Except options. WhatsApp users can also prohibit everyone from adding them to a new group. On doing so, users will get a request to join a new group, which they can accept or reject.

How to prevent everyone from adding you to a WhatsApp group:

Step 1: Open WhatsApp on your smartphone.

Step 2: Tap the Settings icon at the bottom of the screen.

Step 3: Tap the Privacy option and then tap the Groups icon.

Step 4: Select ‘My Contacts except…’ option.

Step 5: Now select all your contacts in the screen that follows.
