WhatsApp recently rolled out a new update on iPhone, adapting the iOS 26 interface with Liquid Glass design. It brings a fresh UI change within the app, with ‘glassy’ bottom navigation bar that houses the Updates, Calls, Communities, Chats, and Settings tabs. The new update, however, is not without its bugs. A strange issue has popped up while using the mute feature in WhatsApp. Also Read: iOS 26 Inspiration Or Copy? Many users took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to report the unexpected glitch. Techlusive was also able to replicate it while using the mute feature. When listening to a voice note on WhatsApp, pressing the volume down button to mute the iPhone brings up an oversized mute indicator – in the middle of the chat window – that stretches across the screen vertically. Though this little bug doesn’t affect app performance, it looks out of place and suggests that the new UI may have missed some final polish before release.
WhatsApp hasn’t officially acknowledged the issue yet, but given its visibility, a fix is expected in the next version. The problem likely stems from compatibility adjustments between WhatsApp’s new interface and iOS 26’s system-level animations.
Notably, Apple released the stable version of the iOS 26 update in September this year after months of beta testing. The new software update brings a fresh look, dubbed the Liquid Glass design, to the user interface on compatible iPhones. It introduces a translucent aesthetic across native apps and system menus.
WhatsApp started rolling out the Liquid Glass-inspired interface iPhones with its new update (version 25.29.73) just last week on iPhones running on the latest iOS 26. With this update, the instant messaging platform also added support for Live Photos in chats. WhatsApp also introduced the in-app message translation feature, which allows users to translate texts by long-pressing them and tapping on ‘Translate’ for supported languages.
