Realme has announced a new partnership with Ricoh Imaging, the Japanese camera brand best known for its GR series, as it gears up for the launch of its next flagship – the Realme GT 8 Pro. The company says the collaboration aims to “bring the soul of classic cameras” to smartphone photography. The first product to come out of this partnership will debut later this month with the GT 8 Pro. The result, Realme says, is a camera system that delivers film-like tones, colour science inspired by Ricoh’s GR cameras, and a more natural, nostalgic look to images. The company also teased a new set of five classic image tones that will be available exclusively on the GT 8 Pro, designed to capture the essence of traditional photography.
Kazunobu Saiki, General Manager of Ricoh’s Camera Business Division, said the partnership is aimed at helping more people experience the joy of photography – even those who don’t use dedicated cameras. “Through this collaboration, we hope that even casual users can enjoy the charm of snapshot photography with the GT 8 Pro,” he added.
Realme confirmed that the new imaging technology will debut on October 14, alongside a short film titled Four Years in One Snap, which documents the collaboration’s behind-the-scenes development. The new system will feature upgrades to optical hardware, colour algorithms, imaging tone design, and a custom UI.
With this move, Realme joins an ever-growing club of smartphone makers joining forces with legendary camera brands. Xiaomi has its long-standing tie-up with Leica, Vivo continues to refine its imaging tech with ZEISS, and Oppo has partnered with Hasselblad for its flagship models.
