Data leak is one of the most alarming online threat that we are struggling to deal with. A new website called ProxyEarth has raised serious privacy concerns as the platform claims it can reveal personal information about anyone using nothing more than their phone number! This becomes even more alarming considering that we all have shared our number casually or used it for verification across apps.
Based on the several reports and claims by the users on social media, ProxyEarth seems to bring a wide range of personal information that you may never want to share publicly! Site claims that with just a number, it ProxyEarth can show your Full name, Father’s name, Home address, Alternate phone numbers, Email ID, and even un some cases, live location!
The site reportedly uses triangulation data from telecom towers to point to a phone’s current location. And while some details may be outdated, the fact that this level of information is accessible publicly is alarming.
The personal data shown on ProxyEarth appears to come from telecom records, the same documents users submit while purchasing SIM cards. These include ID proof, address details, and linked contact information, the reports suggested.
A user named Arvind Chauhan on X has shared some screenshots which further reveals that ProxyEarth has shared the name, alternative number, SIM details, and even the live location!
The developer of ProxyEarth, a programmer named Rakesh, told India Today that he hasn’t done anything illegal. His claim is that the data already exists on the internet due to previous breaches, and the website simply collects it. He also admitted that the platform helps generate traffic for promoting his other websites. However, this explanation doesn’t reduce the risks for users.
Despite growing concerns, ProxyEarth has been live for nearly a week and remains accessible. Authorities have not yet commented or taken visible action, and the developer continues to promote the site on social platforms.
Until more clarity emerges, you should be extremely cautious about where you share your phone numbers and should monitor bank SMS alerts, email activity, and unknown calls closely.
