Meta has collaborated with Safer Internet India for an awareness initiative to deal with the rising threat of online fraud and scams. The initiative involves creators as educators of digital safety. Meta has confirmed that the initiative will include capacity-building and brainstorming workshops for creators to equip them with the necessary skills required to identify and brainstorm emerging scams. The workshops for the creators will also help them understand the safety tools across the Meta platforms and help them create necessary content to educate the audience on scams and the safety tips to save themselves. “Through our partnership with Safer Internet India, we want to empower creators to spearhead conversations around digital safety. By providing them with comprehensive tools, knowledge, and ongoing support, we strive to foster a collaborative ecosystem where creators not only educate users on identifying and preventing scams but also reinforce consumer habits that include safe and informed digital behavior,” Nathaniel Gleicher, Global Head of Counter Fraud and Director of Security Policy at Meta said during the creator-focused event hosted by Safer Internet India, supported by Meta. Apart from this, the tech giant has also launched its second edition of its anti-scams campaign – Scams se Bacho 2.0. The campaign has hosted several culturally relevant and visually impactful ways on the streets of Mumbai to create awareness about online scams in the public space.
As per a latest report by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), India has lost around Rs 7,000 crore in several online scams in the first five months of 2025. On average, India is losing around Rs 1000 crore every month. In Southeast Asia, the three most prevalent scams are related to stock trading or investment, digital arrests and task-based or investment-based scams.
Apart from the awareness campaigns by creators and tech giants to be aware of online scams, you also need to be aware of all the latest happenings in the digital world and the ways scammers are taking advantage of online users.
