Google’s default keyboard, Gboard, is getting AI smart features that aim to improve user interaction and convenience. The tech giant is integrating AI-powered tools directly into the keyboard. Gboard is known as one of the most popular keyboard apps worldwide with a smooth typing experience, predictive text, and emoji suggestions.

Google’s Gboard New AI-Powered Features

Flick Keys

One of the most talked about features that’s coming to the Gboard is the ‘Flick Keys to enter Symbols’ feature. This will allow users to enter symbols quickly just by touching a key and pulling it downward. The feature will be similar to the Apple keyboard experience on iPads.

While it might take some time to get used to, this feature promises faster access to symbols and can significantly speed up typing once mastered.

Number Row Customization for Compact Phones

Additionally, Gboard is also introducing a new setting to control the number row display. It will be used when typing passwords. The number row feature will be helpful for smaller device owners like the Pixel 9, Galaxy S25 Edge, and OnePlus 13. It will help save screen space without sacrificing usability.

It means users can now choose when and how the number row appears, enhancing typing efficiency on compact screens.

AI Writing Tools

Google is known for embedding AI-powered tools, and hence, Gboard is also not left behind. The latest beta allowed users to enter their own prompts, giving commands to AI about exactly what they want to generate.

Whether it’s composing a quick email, drafting messages, or creating content, Gboard will now be able to create anything.

Optional Key Shapes

Google is also adding optional key shapes to Gboard. To recall, earlier experiments with circular and pill-shaped shapes received mixed reactions from users, which led the to company make the key shape customization feature optional. This will allow users to choose the key background based on their preferences.
