Xiaomi’s much-anticipated 17 series could make its debut in China later this month. According to industry sources, the company is planning to unveil the lineup on September 30, though an official confirmation is yet to come. The timing seems likely, especially since Xiaomi has already begun teasing the 17 Pro series in recent days.
Adding to the buzz, Xiaomi president Lu Weibing announced he will host a livestream at 7PM CST to answer community questions about the new lineup – including why the brand decided to skip the Xiaomi 16 name entirely.
The upcoming series is expected to include three models: the standard Xiaomi 17, the 17 Pro, and the 17 Pro Max. While details on the base version remain under wraps, leaks have provided an early look at the Pro models.
Both the Xiaomi 17 and 17 Pro are said to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. The chipset comes with two performance cores clocked at 4.61GHz and six efficiency cores running at 3.63GHz. Early Geekbench tests show scores of 3,096 in single-core and 9,382 in multi-core, pointing to a noticeable jump in performance. The upcoming phones will offer 16GB RAM and run on Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 (based on Android 16).
Xiaomi has also confirmed one of the most talked-about design changes – the Magic Back Screen. Replacing the traditional camera island, this secondary display wraps around the lenses in a sleek rectangular strip. This secondary screen can be customized with clock widgets, GIFs, or avatars, and will double up as a selfie viewfinder, smart home control panel, and shortcut hub.
The Xiaomi 17 Pro is expected to carry a triple 50MP setup – main (f/1.67), ultra-wide, and telephoto with 5x optical zoom. The Pro Max variant will offer a brighter f/2.6 telephoto lens. As with previous flagships, the cameras are tuned in partnership with Leica.
