Samsung is reportedly working on slimmer versions of its next-generation foldables – the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8. The move is said to be part of the company’s plan to strengthen its foldable lineup ahead of Apple’s expected entry into the segment with the rumoured “iPhone Fold” in 2026. According to a report by The Bell from South Korea, Samsung’s main focus for the upcoming foldables will be reducing thickness and weight. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 already saw a notable size reduction compared to its predecessor, but the Z Flip 7 didn’t see the same improvement, which reportedly impacted sales. With the Fold 8 and Flip 8, Samsung is expected to take a more aggressive approach to design refinement. Also Read: iPhone 20 Or First Foldable iPhone May Finally Get Under-Display Selfie Camera
The company is reportedly aiming to make the Galaxy Z Fold 8 slimmer and easier to carry, addressing one of the most common complaints from users. The Fold 7 currently measures 8.9mm thick and weighs around 215 grams – down from the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s 12mm frame. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 could be about 10% thinner and lighter than the Flip 7, potentially weighing around 170 grams. It’s expected to measure roughly 6mm when unfolded and 12mm when folded. The slimmer form factor is also seen as a strategic move to prepare for competition from Apple’s first foldable iPhone. Samsung reportedly believes Apple’s entry could either expand the foldable market or draw away some of its user base. The company has set a combined sales target of 6.7 million units for the Fold 8 and Flip 8, aiming for a 10% increase over the previous generation. Both devices are expected to launch around mid-2026.
Samsung also appears ready to expand its lineup with a new foldable – the Galaxy Z TriFold. The device, which was first shown at the APEC Summit in South Korea, is tipped to feature a triple-folding design. According to tipster @evleaks, the Galaxy Z Trifold could include a 200MP main camera and a 10-inch internal display when fully opened. It may be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and pack a 5,437mAh battery. Reports suggest a launch on December 5, with a possible price of $2,999 (roughly Rs 2.65 lakh).
