According to a report by the Korean news platform Newsis, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to undergo a major design makeover, similar to the iPhone 17 Pro. For a quick recap, the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max are expected to get a large camera module at the back, almost covering one-third of the iPhone. Similar to the iPhone 17 Pro strategy, Samsung may also increase the size of its cameras, which ultimately could sacrifice the cleaner look of the Ultra models so far. The Galaxy S26 Ultra, which is expected to launch early next year, may get bigger camera lenses. This also means that the Galaxy S26 Ultra may get the camera island back after five years. The last model by Samsung that featured a camera module at the back was the Galaxy S21 Ultra. After that, the Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy S24 Ultra, and Galaxy S25 Ultra have ditched the idea of the camera island and presented a cleaner look.
It is possible to accommodate the better camera of the main and telephoto lenses at the back. However, it is unclear whether the Galaxy S26 Ultra will get the large rectangular camera island like the iPhone 17 Pro or will it get it like the Galaxy S21 Ultra.
Apart from this design change, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is also expected to have more rounded edges than the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Moreover, it could be thinner and lighter than the predecessor. What else? It may be powered by the next flagship chipset by Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2.
