Samsung seems to be focusing on its flagship smartphone series now. Earlier reports suggested that the Galaxy S26 series would drop the familiar “Plus” version in favour of a slimmer “Edge” model. But with the Galaxy S25 Edge failing to click with buyers, it now looks like Samsung is bringing back the Galaxy S26+. Reports from South Korea (The Elec) say that Samsung has already started work on a device codenamed M Plus, believed to be the Galaxy S26+. Originally, the S26 lineup was expected in three versions: Standard (M1), Edge (M2), and Ultra (M3). Weak demand for the S25 Edge, however, seems to have pushed Samsung to rethink its strategy, and it may also bring the Galaxy S26 Plus. The Galaxy S25 Edge was meant to be a slimmer replacement for the Plus model. On paper, it packed Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, but the compromises stood out quickly. The thinner design meant a smaller 3,900mAh battery, which barely lasted a day. It also missed out on a telephoto camera, and reports noted heating and performance throttling under heavy workloads. Sales dipped fast after launch, with production slashed to the “low 300,000s” – far less than what Plus models managed in earlier years.
Even though the Plus variant has always shipped in smaller volumes than the Standard and Ultra models, it remains important for Samsung’s revenue. Missing out on even a million units can mean billions lost, given the premium pricing of the Galaxy S series. That’s likely why Samsung doesn’t want to drop it just yet.
If Samsung sticks to this updated roadmap, the Galaxy S26 series could launch in up to four models – Standard, Edge, Plus, and Ultra. That way, Samsung can keep experimenting with slimmer Edge designs while still offering the tried-and-tested Plus version.
The Galaxy S26 series is expected to debut early next year, though specifications are still under wraps. One thing, however, seems certain: the Plus isn’t going away anytime soon.
