Solar Eclipse 2024: The first total solar eclipse of the year 2024 will take place on April 8. The solar eclipse will begin at 1PM EDT or 9:12PM IST on April 8, and go on until 4PM EDT on April 8 or 2:22AM IST on April 9. It will be visible primarily in North America and it will cross parts of four states in Mexico, 15 states in the United States of America and five Canadian provinces.
Interestingly, the total solar eclipse on April 8 is a part of Saros 139. A saros, as NASA explains it, is a time period of 6,585.3 days or 18 years 11 days and 8 hours when a solar or lunar eclipse will repeat itself. Now, every saros series begins with bunch of partial eclipses near one of Earth’s polar regions. It will end with another bunch of partial eclipses on the opposite. The Saros 139 began on May 17, 1501, and it will end on July 03, 2763. In total, Saros 139 will last for approximately 1262.11 years. The next similar eclipse will occur on April 20, 2042.
