After years of requests (and years of workarounds), Google has finally announced a feature many users have been waiting for – sharing files directly between Android and iPhone. Thanks to a new update to Quick Share, Google’s file-sharing system now works with Apple’s AirDrop, which makes cross-platform sharing an easy task.

The good part is that this works without any hacks, cloud uploads, or weird third-party apps. So, how does it work? Can all Android users now share files with iPhone users? Unfortunately, there are still some limitations.

How To Share Files From Android To iPhone And Vice-Versa

Google revealed that Quick Share now supports AirDrop on the receiving end. This means your Pixel phone can now discover iPhones, iPads, and even Macs as nearby share targets. On Android (starting with the Pixel 10 series), Apple devices will now appear directly in the Quick Share interface, as long as the iPhone user has set AirDrop to “Everyone for 10 Minutes.”

So, once enabled, you can start sharing like any normal transfer:

  • Select what you want to send
  • Tap Quick Share
  • Choose the iPhone, iPad, or Mac nearby
  • The Apple user taps “Accept”
  • And it is done!

Photos, videos, PDFs, and other files can be transferred wirelessly using a peer-to-peer connection, meaning nothing goes through a server and nothing is logged.

Supported devices and availability

As of today, the feature is exclusive to the Pixel 10 lineup, including:

  • Pixel 10
  • Pixel 10 Pro
  • Pixel 10 Pro XL
  • Pixel 10 Pro Fold

Google says more Android devices will get this functionality soon.

How To Enable It (Pixel 10 series)

Google says you may need to update the Quick Share extension manually:

  • First of all, open Settings and search for Google Services
  • Now, go to All Services and click Privacy & Security
  • Open System Services and update Quick Share Extension
  • Now, restart your phone
  • Once enabled, iPhones will appear automatically when AirDrop is set to Everyone for 10 minutes.

Interestingly, Google confirmed this isn’t an official Google-Apple teamwork moment. Instead, it’s Google’s own implementation that makes Android devices discoverable to AirDrop. In a statement, the company said it “welcomes collaboration opportunities with Apple” to solve cross-platform issues – especially to support AirDrop’s Contacts Only mode in the future.
