Google Unlocks Direct Sharing Between Android and iOS Devices. Know all the details.
After years of requests (and years of workarounds), Google has finally announced a feature many users have been waiting for – sharing files directly between Android and iPhone. Thanks to a new update to Quick Share, Google’s file-sharing system now works with Apple’s AirDrop, which makes cross-platform sharing an easy task.
The good part is that this works without any hacks, cloud uploads, or weird third-party apps. So, how does it work? Can all Android users now share files with iPhone users? Unfortunately, there are still some limitations.
Google revealed that Quick Share now supports AirDrop on the receiving end. This means your Pixel phone can now discover iPhones, iPads, and even Macs as nearby share targets. So, once enabled, you can start sharing like any normal transfer:
Photos, videos, PDFs, and other files can be transferred wirelessly using a peer-to-peer connection, meaning nothing goes through a server and nothing is logged.
As of today, the feature is exclusive to the Pixel 10 lineup, including:
Google says more Android devices will get this functionality soon.
Google says you may need to update the Quick Share extension manually:
Interestingly, Google confirmed this isn’t an official Google-Apple teamwork moment. Instead, it’s Google’s own implementation that makes Android devices discoverable to AirDrop. In a statement, the company said it “welcomes collaboration opportunities with Apple” to solve cross-platform issues – especially to support AirDrop’s Contacts Only mode in the future.
