Rockstar Games has announced that GTA Online is now free to play for a limited period on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. The decision comes shortly after the studio confirmed another delay for GTA 6, and appears to be a move to keep fans engaged in the meantime. The free access period was first spotted by players online before Rockstar officially confirmed it. Many users on social media noticed that GTA Online no longer required an active PS Plus subscription to play, leading to speculation about a possible trial. Players had earlier criticised Rockstar for including GTA Online in the paid GTA+ service while still keeping it behind a PS Plus paywall. This temporary offer seems to address those concerns, at least for now. Also Read: GTA 5 Might Be Coming Back To PS Plus This November: All You Need To Know
GTA Online can be downloaded and played for free on the PlayStation and Xbox digital stores. Players just need to search for the game in their respective stores and download it – no purchase or active subscription is required. Also Read: WhatsApp Is Set To Get Third-Party Chats Support Soon: Report
If you still see a price listed, Rockstar says it might take a few hours for the offer to reflect across all regions. The free trial will remain available until Monday, November 17, after which players will need to pay again or have a valid subscription to continue accessing the online mode.
It’s worth noting that this offer only includes GTA Online, not the full GTA 5 story mode. The online version lets players build their own criminal empire, take part in heists, and explore Los Santos with friends.
While this free week won’t erase the disappointment of the GTA 6 delay, it gives players another reason to revisit Rockstar’s long-running online world – which continues to remain one of the most played games on both consoles.
