OpenAI has collaborated with Broadcom, a global technology leader in the field of semiconductors, to develop and deploy 10 gigawatts of AI accelerators. These accelerators will be designed by OpenAI with an aim to build an infrastructure that directly integrates the company’s AI model development into specialized hardware.

OpenAI is trying to unlock new levels of performance and intelligence by collaborating with Broadcom in order to meet the rapid growth of global demands for AI solutions and infrastructure.

Custom AI Accelerators by OpenAI

OpenAI, in collaboration with Broadcom, will develop custom AI chips that will be fully optimized for OpenAI’s advanced models. Additionally, Broadcom will provide Ethernet-based connectivity along with networking solutions to OpenAI.

OpenAI, in its blog post, says that the company is trying and hoping to create accelerators that deliver faster, smarter, and more energy-efficient computation.

Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO, says, “Partnering with Broadcom is a critical step in building the infrastructure needed to unlock AI’s potential and deliver real benefits for people and businesses. Developing our own accelerators adds to the broader ecosystem of partners, all building the capacity required to push the frontier of AI to provide benefits to all humanity.”

One of the striking and noticeable things about these accelerators will be that they will be deployed across OpenAI’s facilities as well as partner data centers. The company will then form a robust ecosystem to support AI on a large scale.

Sam Altman further says, “Broadcom’s collaboration with OpenAI signifies a pivotal moment in the pursuit of artificial general intelligence,” said Hock Tan, President and CEO of Broadcom. “OpenAI has been at the forefront of the AI revolution since the ChatGPT moment, and we are thrilled to co-develop and deploy 10 gigawatts of next-generation accelerators and network systems to pave the way for the future of AI.”

With this collaboration, OpenAI aims to ensure that artificial intelligence is accessible and beneficial for all of humanity.

What is Broadcom’s Role

Broadcom CEO Hock Tan highlighted that this collaboration is going to bring a new wave in AI technologies. He mentions that by combining OpenAI’s accelerators and Broadcom’s Ethernet-based networking, both companies will make sure that AI systems can scale efficiently, keeping in mind and maintaining high performance and reliability.
