Remember the metaverse – the virtual world that was once Meta’s big dream? Well, it’s not gone, but it’s getting a serious reboot. Meta is now trying to take help from its artificial intelligence (AI) tools to accelerate that vision. In an internal note shared with employees, Vishal Shah, Meta’s Vice President of Metaverse, reportedly told the team to “think 5X, not 5 percent.” His message? Use AI to move faster, build smarter, and make AI a daily part of how the company operates, according to the note obtained by 404 Media. Shah urged not just engineers, but designers and project managers too, to use AI in their daily work – whether it’s for prototyping, fixing bugs, or building new features. The company wants teams to cut down workflow delays and deliver results five times faster than before. As per the reports, Meta’s leadership seems to be focusing on embedding AI deeply into the company’s work culture. The idea is that AI should be used as naturally as any other tool – something that helps every employee, across roles, do their job better. A Meta spokesperson also confirmed that this direction isn’t new – AI has been a growing priority. In fact, Mark Zuckerberg had earlier said that he expects AI to handle nearly half of Meta’s coding work by 2026.
This latest internal push comes soon after Meta’s AI-focused Connect 2025 event, where the company unveiled its “AI glasses” and new tools like “Vibes,” an endless feed of AI-generated videos.
Meta’s renewed energy around the Metaverse comes after years of mixed results. Despite investing billions, the company’s Reality Labs division – which leads its VR and Metaverse projects – reported a $4 billion loss in Q2 2025.
