YouTube is gearing up to drop a new subscription called Premium Lite that will be more on the affordable side. This one will focus on ad-free podcasts and how-to videos. The Premium Lite subscription will not provide ad-free music videos like the full-fledged YouTube Premium plan. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, this new subscription will focus on viewers who are more into content that is beyond music.

A spokesperson from YouTube also said that the plan is the representation of the company’s ideology of providing more flexibility to the users and letting them enjoy the ad-free experience. It also being said that the feature will be rolled out for multiple markets slowly and steadily. In the past, YouTube tested an ad-free Premium Lite trial in Europe in 2021 but it discontinued after a couple of years.

Considering the latest trends in the market, the number of podcast listeners is exponentially increasing along with the creators. And yes, the YouTube Premium Lite coming to action will also change the way YouTube earns money. This plan could also help in subscription-based earning for these creators if the mass adoption of the same becomes successful.

The minimal charge plans by YouTube could motivate more podcast fans to go for ad-free listening and we can also get to see the migration of people from platforms like Spotify. As for the rollout, the YouTube Premium Lite subscription model will first make a debut in the United States, Germany, Thailand, and Australia. As of now, there is no word on the pricing and other things of the plan. We can expect to know more about the same once it is announced officially.
