Story Highlights

  • WhatsApp is testing a new chat themes on iOS.
  • There will be at least 10 new chat themes in Settings.
  • WhatsApp may officially roll out the feature sometime later this year.

Remember when WhatsApp changed the colour of the app on iOS to green? Everyone was mad at Meta for doing that, however, it switched back to blue and went back to green again. Now, however, WhatsApp will make sure that you set the colour tone of your choice within the app. The change is coming to the chat theme. The Meta-owned firm is testing a feature that allows users to change their default chat theme to the choice of their colours.

WhatsApp to introduce new chat themes soon

According to WABetainfo, WhatsApp is testing a new feature on the beta version of the app on iOS version 24.12.10.77. It’s a customization feature that lets users change their default chat theme. As per a screenshot shared online, there are at least 10 new themes you can try.

It is worth noting that WhatsApp was previously planning to introduce 5 new chat themes, however, it may have reconsidered that to announce at least 10 new themes later. These colours include white, blue, pink, purple, and others. All these colours are in the lighter shades, probably for better readability of text.

Users will be able to change their chat theme from Settings in the Default chat theme tab. Since the feature is currently in the testing phase in the beta update, we should see it sometime later. Usually, those features that are tested in the beta version appear in the stable version of the app in a couple of months.

The feature was spotted on the iOS beta platform, however, there’s no doubt that it will also arrive on Android as well. The final release timeline will be known after WhatsApp itself announces it.

Other than this, WhatsApp is testing many more features which are first tested in the beta version of the app on Android or iOS and then rolled out to the public. One such feature is the ability to transfer chats from one phone to another without using Google Drive. Instead of Google Drive backups, users can transfer chats between devices using a QR code. This will eliminate the manual process, also making it convenient for the users.

While the feature is yet to be available on Android, some iOS users have already received it. You can find the feature in Settings > Chats > Transfer chats to iPhone. Now, scan the QR code on the other iPhone to transfer all chats to your new iPhone.
