WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature for community chats that will allow admins to set a specific event’s duration. This means you can not only set the event date and start time but also the end time. This will let the community members know the exact schedule of an upcoming event. WAbetainfo spotted the upcoming feature in the latest beta update of WhatsApp on Android. The beta version 2.24.17.11 has an updated ‘Event’ feature that lets users set the end time of an upcoming event. So far, users were only able to set the start time of an event, but with an end time, community members can follow the right schedule for an event. As seen in the following image, users will be able to see the end time just below the start time while creating a community event. Users can choose to also add a description, which is optional, a location, and a WhatsApp call link if it’s a virtual meeting. While this is a small change, it’s a much-needed one as it will allow all the community members to manage their schedules better by noting the end time of an event. The feature, so far, has only been spotted in the Android beta version of WhatsApp. However, we should also see it on the iOS soon.
WhatsApp hasn’t officially confirmed this change, but since it’s available in the beta version, we can expect it to arrive later with an official announcement. As to when exactly? We’ll have to wait for that to know in the future, but this change should be made available at least sometime this year.
Other than this, WhatsApp is working on a host of other features for its users to make their user experience better. Recently, the beta version of the app brought an Instagram-like ability. The ability in question is the double-tap-to-react feature akin to Instagram, where users can double-tap a message to like it with a heart emoji.
Again, this feature was also spotted on Android, but it should be made available in the iOS beta version soon, followed by a release to the stable version of the app.
