WhatsApp may soon let you chat with Meta AI more privately. According to details spotted in a recent beta build, the messaging platform is working on a new Incognito Mode designed to keep conversations confidential, much like Chrome’s Incognito browsing or Safari’s Private mode. The feature was discovered by WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo inside the Android beta version 2.25.28.1. While it isn’t live yet for testers, early signs suggest that the Incognito Mode will prevent Meta AI from storing your chat history or using it to personalise responses. Essentially, once you close the chat window, the queries vanish – leaving no record behind. This could be a welcoming feature for users who want to ask sensitive questions or explore topics without worrying about their data being stored. Currently, Meta AI can save some interactions to improve future responses. But under Incognito Mode, there will reportedly be “no personalisation, no history, and no memory”, giving users more control over what stays private. Screenshots shared by WABetaInfo show a toggle for the mode within the Meta AI chat window. Once enabled, WhatsApp warns users about the limitations: conversations won’t be saved and AI replies won’t be customised. Still, for those who prefer confidentiality over convenience, this trade-off might be worth it.
The move fits into WhatsApp’s broader push to expand AI features while also addressing privacy concerns. Recently, the platform was also spotted testing Meta AI’s voice chat mode, which allows two-way conversations with the chatbot. That update, found in beta version 2.25.21.21, is expected to add flexibility for users who want hands-free interactions.
There’s no official word yet on when Incognito Mode will roll out to all users. However, given WhatsApp’s track record, features spotted in beta often make their way to the stable app within weeks or months.
If it launches, Incognito Mode could make Meta AI more appealing to users wary of sharing too much with chatbots.
