OpenAI is taking ChatGPT to the next level by allowing users to access some of their favourite apps directly within the chatbot. The company has officially announced integrations with popular services like Spotify, Canva, Coursera, Figma, and Zillow, making it possible to use them through simple text commands. The announcement came during OpenAI’s DevDay event, where the company also introduced its new Apps SDK, a tool that lets third-party developers link their apps directly to ChatGPT. The intention behind this update is to assist users with more tasks without them having to endlessly click between websites or applications. Now, you can do it all in one window – the ChatGPT chat box. Also Read: Sam Altman Launches OpenAI’s Sora 2 App With AI-Powered Video Creation
With the new update, ChatGPT can now do a lot more than answer questions. You can ask it to design a flyer, create a Spotify playlist, or even find rental listings, all through a text-based prompt. For instance, you can now type “Spotify, create me a playlist for my morning run” and immediately get a playlist created based on your previous listening history. Similarly, “Canva, design a post for my coffee shop’s weekend offer” will create a custom design that you can tweak or open directly in Canva. Spotify said it’s still early in this integration journey but promised ongoing improvements to make the experience smoother over time. Canva’s integration works in a similar way. You can create or preview a design and even make quick changes by just typing instructions like “make the text bolder” or “change the background to blue.” It’s the same Canva experience, only now it’s built right into your chat.
The update is not only limited to music or design. Coursera has now connected itself to ChatGPT, allowing its users the chance to find online courses, study materials, and videos to correspond with what they’re discussing or trying to learn. Figma now allows you to collaborate with your team to sketch layouts or brainstorm through chat. Zillow now allows you to search home listings with prices, photos, and location with just a simple description of a home you are looking for.
OpenAI has confirmed that this is only the beginning. Future integrations will include Uber, DoorDash, Target, OpenTable, Peloton, Tripadvisor, and AllTrails, allowing users to book rides, order food, or plan trips without leaving the chat.
Later this year, OpenAI will also open submissions for developers to create and monetise their own apps through a dedicated ChatGPT App Directory.
Together, these new tools make ChatGPT feel less like a chatbot and more like a personal AI assistant — one that can help with work, creativity, or everyday life, all without leaving the conversation.
