Google has recently dropped a new feature for Google chat users. Now, they will be able to send video messages to each other on the platform. The update is focused on making communication highly convenient. The feature will most likely save the time of both sender and receiver and the messages could be conveyed with better clarity and exact tone.
The video messages can be directly shared in messages, spaces, and group chats. Apart from that, the users can also interact with the messages by quoting reacting or even replying in the thread. As of now, your recording and sending of video messages is only available for the web version of the application. All those who use the mobile version will be only able to receive the messages and view them. That being said, Google is also planning to expand and bring the features to smartphones in the near future as well.
The feature will be available to multiple Google Workspace users from different plans including Business Starter, Standard, Plus, Enterprise Standard, Plus, Essentials Starter, Enterprise Essentials, Nonprofits, Frontline Starter, and, Standard. The rollout of the feature has already started on October 7, 2024, and it will take up to 15 days for a complete rollout. One thing that you need to know is that the video messages feature will not offer the recording facility on certain systems like ChromeOS, Firefox, and Linux.
