Story Highlights

  • Instagram is updating the app with a small change.
  • It is making the Notes feature visible to more people by adding it to profiles.
  • Notes will now be visible in both DMs section and profiles.

Instagram has an update for those who religiously use Notes on the platform. The company is now making Notes visible on profiles, letting friends see a person’s brief status individually. However, that does not mean Notes are disappearing from the DMs section. The feature will be visible in both places, increasing its visibility.

Instagram Notes to be visible in two places

Instagram aims to make Notes visible to more people by adding the feature to profiles. This way, more people can see and use the feature. So far, the only way to see Notes was in the Inbox or DMs section. The top space was dedicated to Notes, however, it showed Notes from every one of your friends who posted them. But now, you will be able to see people’s Notes individually by heading to their profile page.

Further, you can reply to your friend’s Notes. Instagram is also testing a new prompt for Notes that suggests users to ask questions to their friends, to which they can reply in their updates on Notes.

The Meta-owned app probably wants to keep users active on the platform so that it increases app usage. While Notes will be visible in more than one place, it is to be noted that they stay for 24 hours, similar to Stories. That said, if you haven’t already used Notes, make sure to keep in mind that it won’t stay there for long.

Also, Notes can be seen by mutuals, which means you and the other person should follow each other. You cannot see Notes of a celebrity whom you are following but they aren’t following you. To use Notes, head to the DMs section, tap on the ‘Your note’ option at the top, write or add what you want to, and then tap on the Share button.

Apart from this, the company is now adding a new ‘cutouts’ feature, which is a sticker-maker tool in the app. It allows users to make stickers of their photos from the gallery. The feature can be used for Reels and Posts. That said, you can see it when you try to create a new Reel or Post.

Also, it will blur photos that it detects to have nudity content. For users under 18, the nudity protection feature will be turned on by default.
