Instagram keeps bringing new features and elements to make the user experience seamless. And now, the application is possibly working on an independent application for Reels. As per the report published by The Information, Instagram head Adam Mosseri has had a word with his team related to the idea of having a separate app for Reels.

Rumours have it that Meta is planning to take advantage of the TikTok situation. For those who are unaware, TikTok has been banned in many countries and now the future of the app is not even fixed in the United States of America. Lawmakers in the country have expressed the future of TikTok because of its connection to China and its parent company ByteDance. At this time, a separate application for Reels can change the whole game and it will stand a chance to dominate the short videos market.

And yes, Meta has been leaving no stone unturned to rule the short video market. Previously, in January, Meta released an app named Edits as well. As the name suggests, it is a video editing app that gave tough competition to Capcut (another product from TikTok’s parent company). The story of Meta and standalone apps is not something new as we also got to see Lasso which was discontinued because of less traction.

From a user point of view, a separate app for reels can open the gates of getting back a TikTok-like application in India as well where TikTok got banned a long time ago. Apart from that, it has not been confirmed until now if the introduction of a new app will make the original Instagram app remove reels or not. High chances are that having a separate app will mean the Instagram app will go back to basics. As of now, nothing can be said with complete surety as of now. Readers are suggested to take the information with a grain of salt and wait for an official statement from Instagram.
