Meta just dropped the long-awaited native iPad app for WhatsApp. This is now rolling out globally via the Apple App Store. This means iPad users no longer have to rely on clunky browser workarounds and can simply use the app itself to make their messaging experience better.
The iPad version of WhatsApp brings all the features users expect from the platform. iPad users can make video and audio calls with up to 32 people, switch between the front and rear cameras, and enjoy full screen-sharing support.
WhatsApp for iPad makes chatting with your friends super convenient. Your messages, calls, and media stay synced across your iPhone, Mac, and now iPad, making it easier to keep the conversation going on the same screen. It also makes it easier for people to now directly download large files like photos and videos onto their iPads and view them right away on the larger screen.
While FaceTime is widely used by Apple users, many people still prefer WhatsApp because it works across devices. With the iPad version, it becomes easier to take video calls, and the landscape mode gives a more immersive viewing experience while chatting.
Users will also be able to multitask more efficiently and use split view, slide over, and even Stage Manager all work seamlessly. The app supports both the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil, making it feel almost like using a laptop. Basically, this is the full-fledged WhatsApp experience without any compromises.
It’s kind of weird to think about why it took almost 15 years for Meta to release a native WhatsApp app for iPad. Meta never gave a solid reason for skipping the iPad, but it was most likely due to Apple’s restrictions on telephony apps and WhatsApp’s original phone number based identity system. Now, with multi-device support fully in place, this is the perfect time for a dedicated iPad WhatsApp app.
