The showroom is open right at the heart of Mumbai’s upscale Bandra-Kurla complex. India, being one of the fastest-growing EV markets, has finally drawn attention from the world’s most influential tech-driven automakers. The launch of Tesla will not just pay attention to India’s EV growth, but also a bold step in transforming how India experiences sustainable and high-performance mobility.

Tesla Opening Ceremony in India

The opening ceremony of Tesla’s showroom was attended by Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis. After a long awaited journey came to an end and the electric carmaker made its formal entry to India’s EV market. The opening ceremony took place at Maker Mall in Bandra-Kurla Complex, Mumbai.

Additionally, the company has also unveiled prices for its cars in India. The company is set to launch its much-anticipated Y model in India at Rs 61 lakh.

To recall, Tesla first accepted the pre-booking price for its Model 3 in 2016, however, the maker refunded the money in 2025. Elon Musk, since then has been mentioning about the tax challenges faced by the company in India. However, in 2024, India announced its SPMEPCI policy that slashed the import duties on EV cars that are priced above $35,000.

In 2021, Tesla registered itself as an entity in India as Tesla Motors and Energy Private Limited in Bengaluru.

Elon Musk met PrimeMinister Narendra Modi in Washington early this year and immediately after that the company started hiring employees in India. The company started with advertising 13 job openings, including customer care roles and back-end roles on its LinkedIn page.
