EA has confirmed that its partnership with Marvel remains strong, even after the unexpected cancellation of the Black Panther game. Earlier this week, EA announced it was shutting down Cliffhanger Games, the Seattle-based studio behind the cancelled Black Panther title. This led to speculation among fans about EA and Marvel’s collaboration, but EA has assured them that their partnership is far from over.
Apart from Black Panther, Marvel is also working on 3 other titles with EA. EA also revealed that Motive Studios, the team behind the 2023 Dead Space remake, was developing an Iron Man game. While details about this project are still not known, rumours suggest the game will highlight Iron Man’s iconic flight abilities within open-world gameplay. The recent cancellation has caused some fans to worry about the fate of this and other Marvel projects at EA.
In response, EA Entertainment president Laura Miele reassured fans in a statement to IGN that their multi-title, long-term partnership with Marvel is strong and ongoing. This shows that Marvel and EA are committed to giving fans a game with original storytelling featuring beloved Marvel characters on PC and consoles.
Marvel has also confirmed that at least three games remain in development at EA. The details of these three titles are still under wraps, so for now, we can only guess when the games will be released. This deal was initially announced in 2022 alongside the Iron Man title, with the Black Panther game confirmed a year later before its cancellation.
EA is reportedly refocusing its efforts on key franchises like Battlefield and The Sims. This explains their studio closures and project cancellations. Meanwhile, concept art from the cancelled Black Panther game has surfaced online, giving fans a glimpse of what might have been. For those eager to play as Black Panther, the Azzuri version of the character will appear in Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, expected to launch next year.
Despite the recent setbacks, EA and Marvel’s partnership remains strong, and hopefully, we will see some new game announcements soon.
